The Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 L series lens

Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L Lens Hire

The go-to lens for photojournalists, wedding photography and DSLR videographers

Released back in 2002, “The Digital Picture” called it “…one of the best general-purpose lenses available”, and given the Canon 24-70mm lens was still being produced until 2012, it is still one of the best all-purpose lenses Canon have produced.

This lens has been the go-to glass for our 5D Mark II camera and PMW-F5 camera when shooting pieces requiring the shallow depth-of-field cinematic look. When used on a stills camera, its smooth autofocus operation and zoom range make it an ideal portraiture lens, covering just about all the range you’d need at most events.

The f/2.8 aperture is wonderfully fast for professional photographers, producing outstanding image quality and lovely soft backgrounds at its maximum aperture. When used on a full-frame cinema camera, it looks amazing and can cover a 35mm sensor when used with an appropriate adapter. Take note, however, that this is not a parfocal lens and will not hold focus when zooming in or out from your subject.

It has seen plenty of action, shooting at corporate events, weddings, sporting events and nightclubs, and has always performed admirably. Its macro function allows you to take incredibly close photos of small objects up to 38cm away from your subject. It weighs 950g, so it isn’t a light lens, but its weather-sealed coating and rock-solid casing can survive most conditions. This kit has many superficial scratches on the surface (Not the glass!) that show just how durable this lens has been over its ten-year lifespan with us.

This kit includes the following:

  • Canon 24-70mm USM EF Mount f/2.8L series zoom lens
  • Hoya HD Goldseries 77mm UV filter for protection
  • Lens caps/covers for front and rear elements
  • Genuine Canon EW-83F lens hood
  • Tiffen 77mm variable ND filter, and Hoya 77mm circular polarizing filter (Optional)
  • Canon lens soft carry case
